Researchers have found thousands of pits (though another source said 400) near Stonehenge. They are thought to have been hunting pits, and date as far back as 8200 BCE. According to archaeologist Dr. Nick Snashall, “The discovery of the largest known Early Mesolithic pit in north-west Europe shows this was a special place for hunter-gatherer communities thousands of years before the first stones were erected.”
thanks for these updates! some great news here, though i'm especially sad to hear about the scythian artifacts being stolen from the melitopol museum (upsetting under any circumstances, but i also happen to be a bit of a scythian nerd...) it's unfortunate precautions weren't taken to secure them prior to the invasion. but i suppose we should be grateful artifacts like the amazing tolstaya mogila pectoral are still safe in kiev.

My pleasure, glad you're enjoying them!
Yeah it's always sad to see this type of thing — and it happens far too often. Let's hope the artifacts find their way back to the museum somehow.
